Thunderbird stops responding periodically and must be closed.

In recent weeks, periodically Thunderbird stops responding (spinning blue circle, and screen becomes lighter) and must be shut down. Message says Thunderbird has stopped responding and provides 2 options, to shut down or wait. I have used Thunderbird successfully for years. How can I troubleshoot the cause? This is on a Windows 10, 64 bit laptop.

Does problem go away?

Let me try that. Since it is a sporadic problem it may take a while to see if it occurs. I think it happens every day but not immediately. I wonder if there is any type of log or diagnostic tool that might give a clue as to what occurs when it gets hung up.
