The messages could not be moved or copied to folder 'Trash on jmor444@gmail.com' because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again.

I had the same problem. The instructions under "You're Unable to Delete Messages" on the site https://www.getmailbird.com/thunderbird-email-problems/ worked for me. I.e. just stop thunderbird, delete the Trash.msf and Trash folders and restart thunderbird.

In Linux they are found in /home/<user>/.thunderbird/*******.default/Mail/<mail account>/
