I can sort bookmarks but they don't stay sorted in the bookmark menu

When I sort bookmarks and select organize bookmarks to do it, the same old non-alphabetized list of bookmarks appears after I'm done with the sorting and going back to use the bookmark menu again - everything s still unsorted all over again

Sorting Bookmarks in the Library window (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for temporary display. The Bookmarks are not permanently sorted.

To permanently sort, open the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B opens or closes the Bookmarks Sidebar ---- Cmd+B in OSX), right-click (Cmd+click in OSX) the "Bookmarks Menu" folder and choose "Sort by Name". See:
