The top of the screen are occupied by menu bars, book marks and tabs. They take up too much room. Can I move them to the side? If not, does Firefox plan to move them to the side?

Right-click the Menu bar and click on the Bookmarks Toolbar to hide that Toolbar. Do that again with the Menu bar - when you want access to the Menu bar items hit the Alt key to temporarily reveal the Menu bar. (That's a new feature in Firefox 3.6+ versions.)

Try one of these extensions for Side Tabs.
