You can stop this by changing a hidden preference.
- Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference browser.display.focus_ring_width, double-click on it and change its value to 0 (zero).
For more details on that preference see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.display.focus_ring_width

Thank you very much.
This solved my problem.
But other people still have this problem and they are not aware of it. :)
I think this should be defalt setting on mozzila.
That is part of the advanced accessibility preferences in Firefox.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility_features_of_Firefox
I have that pref set to 3, so I can easily see where I have clicked the previous time on a page with a lot of links that I want to open. If I've visited them before then the visited status doesn't work.
