missing status bar

The status bar went missing after I installed the QuickToolbars (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/quicktoolbars) extension, and hasn't returned after uninstalling the extension. I looked through about:config for clues and found two entries left over after I'd uninstalled it. Removing them didn't help.

I went through each of the following: checked the View | Status Bar setting; uninstalled the extension; restarted FF; restarted the PC, upgraded FF to 3.6.15; disabled all extensions; looked through about:config; logged in here and asked this question.

The bar is not hidden behind any other desktop item (see the screenshot). How do I get my status bar back?

The below described method will bring back your Status bar.

CAUTION - Bringing the status bar back requires that you delete your Profile. Backup your browsing history, bookmarks and passwords by copying places.sqlite file, key3.db file and signons.sqlite from your Firefox profile. To open your profile folder, type about:support in Firefox and click Open Containing Folder.

Open the Firefox uninstall wizard. Select the option Remove my personal data and customizations. Uninstall Firefox.

Re-install Firefox and replace your profile files with the back-up you made.

Thanks for the tip. Will try that and report back.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Fixed now.

While reading about the localstore.rdf and Safe Mode, I decided to reset the toobars to see what would happen. It restored the staus bar.

I haven't noticed any other effects.
