I keep getting a pop-up screen that states Firefox is unable to perform the automatic update. There is a link on the page to firefox.com I think.

Help>About Firefox = reads up to date; BUT

Tools>Options>Advanced>History = NONE The setting here are for the 3 are check marked and download and install is picked.

Thanking you inadvance for your assistance and time.

Firefox 4 is the first Firefox 4 version, so it is quite possible that there isn't an update history available yet.

There is an upcoming update expected one of the next days (Apr 26), so you can keep an eye on that.

Thanks but looking at the Link you provided shows there was a release on March 22 and 9th; further, I still question why I am getting the error message / screen stating that it (Firefox) is unable to update.
