I am finding the Inline spell-check of Firefox really annoying because it seems to find every word of the English language as incorrect. I have worked out that by right-clicking a text box and deselecting "Check Spelling" that it will then leave that particular text box alone, but I seem to be required to do that for every text box I type in. So I was wondering if there is a way of removing the spell-check on a more permanent basis?

Are you sure that you are using the English dictionary as your active dictionary? You can verify that by right-clicking on a word and selecting Languages.

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
You can open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

You can look here for dictionaries:
