I have installed Firefox 6.0 twice now, and each time it opens it begins checking the compatibility of add-ons and opening http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/6.0/whatsnew/ at same time as it opens my home page.

I have installed Firefox 6.0 twice now, and each time it opens it begins with checking the compatibility of add-ons and opening http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/6.0/whatsnew/ at same time as it opens my home page. Multiple turnoffs and turnons don't correct the problem. How can I stop that opening sequence?

Navigate to the page you want as your home page, then open Options > General and click the Use Current Page button.

Because I wanted to be sure my home page stayed the same, I copied the setting for home page into my user.js file in my Firefox profile. You have to create it, since it is not there by default.

Thanks, but no help as I already have my home page set up in settings. The problem is that EACH time I open Firefox 6.0 it runs a compatibility ad-on check AND opens the "what's new?" page with my home page in a separate tab. I then have to close the "what's new" tab to get to home page. I never had this problem with all other previous Firefox versions.

bigmike2, do you use any other browser at all? Or do you use an earlier version of Firefox at the same time?

Also, you should probably check that in Options that the drop-down menu has 'Show my homepage' selected and you might also (if you want the actual Firefox start page) click 'Restore to Default'.

If this was the answer you were looking for, please click 'Solved' -- Thanks.

Strongwind, thanks but it did not help, I use only Firefox and I tried restoring it to defaults and still no help. ALSO I just installed firefox 6.1, hoping it would help, but NO - it still always loads with the compatibility checking screen and then loads BOTH the "what's new page" along with my home site (CNN). EVERYTIME I log into Firefox! Anyone else have anything like this or other suggestions? Thanks
