What are you trying to import? There might be another way to get at it.

For example, if you are trying to import your Internet Explorer favorites into Firefox's bookmarks, you can do a two step process of exporting from IE to an HTML file, and then importing the HTML file into Firefox (I think this imports through Bookmarks > Organizer instead of File > Import).

In IE, use File > Import and Export... (tap the Alt key to display the menu bar if it's hidden)

Then, in Firefox: Importing Bookmarks from an HTML File | How to | Firefox Help.

You may be running Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode if that choice is grayed.

You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

  • Deselect: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
