Every time I open Firefox I get the UAC prompt asking for permission to make changes.

I have searched all over the internet and the only solution seems to be to uncheck the "run as administrator" box in properties, but this box is already unchecked. Many people with this issue found that the box was checked in another location (in the advanced tab, for instance) and unchecking it there solved their problem, but for me the box is unchecked in every location. I'd like to fix this without having to turn off UAC prompts. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".

Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.

Thanks cor-el, but I've already tried that and the "run as administrator" boxes were not selected in any of those places.

          • It turns out that I kept on getting the UAC prompt because Firefox was trying to install an update, so I manually downloaded the newer version and UAC has stopped bothering me. Problem solved :)
