Been using Firefox for years. On my two computers, old and new, firefox has become virtually unusable. It sits in the "connecting" mode with the little wheel spinning for somtimes minutes, where other browsers act normal.

One was an install from years ago, updated and all that. I did all but the "nuclear" option, to no avail.

The other computer is brand new, it was working fine until installing adblocker plus, then it started doing the exact same thing. Even after removing it, then uninstalling Firefox including user data, the browser still crawls.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
