Problems Copying Bookmarks from Old Hard Drive to New Hard Drive
The motherboard on my old Windows Vista 64-bit died. The hard drive is still accessible. I bought a new PC with Windows 7 and installed Firefox. I located the.default file for Firefox on the old hard drive and copied and pasted it in my new profile on my new hard drive. The old hard drive is connected to my new PC with an external hard drive enclosure. I have tried looking in my old user profile for Firefox on the old harddrive. I do this by clicking on my old username, going to Program Files (x86), and the only program file I find is for DNA. Firefox was installed on my old PC, so I am surprised that I cannot find it listed under Program Files (x86) on that drive. If I search the old drive for "bookmark", it brings up my bookmarksbackup and other bookmark ".json" files. I tired copying bookmarksbackup to my new Firefox profile on the new hard drive, and it appeared to work, but the old bookmarks do not show up when I open Firefox. I looked at the troubleshooting links for this issue that others have posted, but they do not seem germane, as I cannot find the sqlite or the directory where my old Firefox settings are stored on my old hard drive. Firefox settings aren't stored in Programs Files, but they are stored under APPDATA.
If you take the most recent JSON file you have, open up Firefox, press the Control, Shift and B keys all at the same time, then go to "Import and Backup" then "restore", then choose file, can you import them that way?

I tried searching the old drive for the %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder and could not find that either. When you refer to the most recent JSON do you mean the most recent one on the old drive? Thank you for your prompt reply. In the interim, I also changed the permissions on the entire old drive, hoping that it would allow me access to more of the old directories. I had successfully down this with one of the folders onthe old drive, but it does not look as if anything changed in terms of finding the %APPDATA% folder. I will reboot the pc and see if thast makes a difference.
Tyler, that worked! Mozilla smart, me dumb. Mozilla is better at finding the old information than I am:) I am very impressed now. Thanks to both of you for your suggestions and prompt replies! One more step taken out of the jungle of a dead computer.
