when downloading huge files around 500mb and I close the screen of my acer iconia a500 android tablet, it comes to a point where my firefox would just stop downloading and kills the whole firefox session. I would like to know how to keep the session alive while the download is still active.

Go with Firefox Addon - "Downthemall". Its the best downloader for firefox. it runs side by side with firefox. if you close accidentally you can get it back from Tools - > DownThemAll Tools -> Manager.

Downloadthemall is not available for Firefox for Android.

Firefox and every other program running on Android is subject to Android's program scheduler it will stop applications from running at any time. Firefox does not have any say in how this happens.

kbrosnan - I thought the typical Android behavior is to leave all applications running all the time, unless the application chooses to quit. It's up to the applications to know when they should use less resources (eg: the user is no longer looking at the app).

For many applications it is 100% vital that they fully run without interruption in the background (or they are rendered broken for their purpose).

I'm sure Firefox could be made to do this too.
