Firefox opens to a blank page and will not allow me to navigate anywhere, how do I fix this?

About one week ago, Firefox stopped working. It opens, but only displays a blank page, with the toolbar at the top. I can select the menu items on the toolbar (such as bookmarks), but nothing I select allows me to navigate to any website. I can open settings. All my bookmarks are gone. I tried uninstalling; reinstalling; upgrading; etc. Nothing has worked.

What should I do?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
