I'm new to FireFox (version 28.0). History/Show All History brings up a window called Library. History, Downloads and Tabs are empty. Bookmarks is properly populated.

I ran the Places Maintenance AddOn, but it did not solve the problem.

Chosen solution

You have history turned off in Firefox, which causes Firefox to start up automatically in private browsing mode. In this mode, many of the dialogs remain blank.

If you do want to keep history, change your setting here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy panel

Where it says "Firefox will: Never remember history" you can choose either:

  • Firefox will: Remember history (default setting)
  • Firefox will: Use custom settings for history (adjust the settings as desired)

If you didn't choose this setting intentionally, and you don't share your computer with someone who did, it's possible that some other software is manipulating your Firefox settings to increase your privacy. You might check your security suite (if you use one) or any privacy-related utilities.

Your System Details List shows that you are in permanent Private Browsing mode and thus do not keep history.
