Before 29 update, tab bar was at the bottom of all toolbars: i had 3 toolbars: menu bar was on top of the screen, address bar was in the middle, and tab bar was at the bottom (above the page content). Now tab bar is in the middle between address bar (which now is next to page content) and menu bar. browser.tabs.onTop is set to false also tried to reorder values of browser.uiCustomization.state but no luck. If i need to get over and this, you will lose me

Have you tried also Classic Theme Restorer? https://addons.mozilla.org/hu/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

Tabs were moved to the top in Firefox 4, and browser.tabs.onTop was added at that time so users who didn't like the change could switch it. In the new design, that is no longer built in. You can alter the toolbar area using a style rule or the above add-on.

To display the classic menu bar at the top persistently, you can use one of these methods:

  • tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars > Menu Bar
  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar (or the new tab "+" button on the tab bar) > Menu Bar
  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars > Menu Bar

Nothing to "solve". That's an intentional change in Firefox 29.

Just try googleing "tab bar position firefox 29" People are traditionalists so if you want to implement new function/design you should add possibility to switch to old one if user isn't feeling comfort with. As i say Theme restorer is my solution for now. It's good enough to make me to not migrate to other browser

Tabs relate to the web pages. It is not logical for the tabs to include the address bar and toolbars. This is another example of the triumph of form over function. It should not be necessary to install plugins or fiddle with styles to make Firefox useable.

Have you noticed how it seems to be morphing into Chrome?

I can't imagine how the Mozilla core group justified this decision.

"It should not be necessary to install plugins or fiddle with styles to make Firefox useable."

I'm not averse to changes but they should make things easier, not more difficult. I'm really trying to get used to the tabs on top but I'm finding it's counter-intuitive and they are harder to see. I don't want to install an add-on because my experience with add-ons is that eventually they cause memory leaks and you have to spend time troubleshooting and possibly disabling them.

I use some addons ... as few as possible, as rarely as possible.

Set on top to False was plop.fizz control. The sort of thing that gives rise to trust and confidence.

I've use FF/Moz/NS since fall of 1995. Never used other til last year (Chrome looks better and better). And over the years I've had less and less trust/confidence.

Those who like tabs on top tell everyone else to ... well ... pick a phrase. "Shut up" is a kind version. Seems straight up arrogant/condescending to me.

p.s. nice that I can edit reply; lame that I can insert a paragraph break but not newline. Configured by those who don't like using NL ... and to hell with anyone else. It's a cultural thing.

Hi BenTrem, regarding your p.s., the forum's heritage is a wiki engine. To insert a new line, unfortunately you have to type the HTML tag <br>

Hi BenTrem, you wrote:

I'm a lawyer, but I don't consider what I do sophistry.

If you support Mozilla's mission, despite recent digressions from the one true path as you see it, join the cause and help fix what you don't like.

Well.... that escalated quickly....

Since the OP has found a solution that works for him, I will be closing this thread.

If you would like to provide user feedback about the recent changes in Firefox, please see https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback. Your feedback will then be read by the appropriate group at Mozilla.
