How can I get the icon on my doc bar to show the number of incoming messages rather than the number of accumulated messages (MacBook Pro)?

more options

I believe that I used to see the number of new messages on my account inside a red oval on the Thunderbird icon on the dock bar. Now I only see the total number of messages, which, since I don't delete many, is a large number - hard to know if any new messages have arrived without opening the program.

Try this: Thunderbird > preferences > Advanced > General tab click on 'Config editor' button it will tell you to be careful :)

in top search type: new_count look for: mail.biff.use_new_count_in_mac_doc Value = false

double click on this line to toggle the setting to 'True'

close the window - top right X click on OK to save changes to settings.

Close and reopen Thunderbird.

I think you will be seeing the unread count.

No, I used to see that. That is what I want to see - but that changed when I downloaded a new version of Thunderbird.
