I have checked with my ISP. All settings OK and I can send and receive e-mails on webmail and on a windows mail IMAP account OK. ISP tech support says the problem is definitely in Thunderbird. Early yesterday everything was working fine but last night and this morning I can neither send nor receive e-mails. I haven't changed any settings.

Chosen solution

Check your firewall and make sure Thunderbird is not being blocked. Sometimes an upgrade to a new version will appear to the firewall as a new program and it will block it.

The webmail and client email use completely different server so all this proves is you know your username and password.

As for the correct settings confirmed by the help desk, in my experience most help desk staff would not know a correct setup if it hit them in the face. You can post your Troubleshooting Info here and maybe someone will be able to spot an issue. Under the Help menu is Troubleshooting Info. Then uncheck the Include Personal Info box. Click Copy to C!ipboard and then paste that to a reply window here.

Since you cannot send or receive the first suspect is the firewall.

Many thanks. I temporarily suspended the Norton Firewall and updated Thunderbird. Everything worked OK and I then re-instated the Firewall and it's still working OK. If it happens again I should know what to do.
