How come most of my messages have prefix of **SPAM** even if I have them in my address book?

Most of my emails have started coming through with **SPAM** before the subject line. Where is this coming from - Thunderbird? It's most annoying!

It doesn't make any difference if the sender is in my address book or if I allow hidden content. And while I'm on the subject, why do I have to allow hidden content every time?

If you are seeing the word 'Spam' then it is being applied by either the server (you may be able to switch this off server side, but for minor irritation it would be worth keeping) or you have installed spam software like Spam Assassin and are using it. Thunderbird does not add 'Spam' to any email. Thunderbird uses the word 'Junk'.

If you are certain who the email is from then you have some options. when you see the message: 'To protect your privacy Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message' there will be an 'Options' button to the right of the message. Click on 'Options' button to see drop down selections..

To Allow remote images in this email only: select: 'Show remote content in this message'

To allow remote content display in all messages from that email address: select: 'allow remote content for email address'

Whilst it is possible to permanently switch off this protection, it is not advised. You can also edit the email addresses that you have selected as exceptions. Select: 'Edit remote content options'

It will open a small window called Options At the top 'Mail content' To permanently switch off: Select: 'allow remote content in messages'

To check list of exceptions, click on top Mail Content 'Exceptions' button

If you make any changes remember to click on all OK buttons.

Thanks Toad-Hall, Very clear. It was Avast adding the 'SPAM' notice. I don't want to turn of the remote content protection so I shall add the addresses to the white list. Thanks for swift response. Regards, Penny
