It shows as connected but the page is blank. Same for MyYahoo. Works fine on IE. I want to use Firefox only.

Dear oldanalog,

try the steps below:

Go to: Tools Next: Options and Privacy In: Cookies view (or remove individual cookies) remove only the "answers.yahoo.com".

If not resolved, contact me.

It might be related to your third party cookie setting blocking cookies from a related site such as yimg.com, but before liberalizing that, you might try "the usual" :

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Interesting. I was able to access "answers.yahoo.com" from the link in your response but clicking on home is still a blank screen & the same for my yahoo. Tried the other fixes to no avail, again. Had tried clearing the cache & the cookies previously.

Could you try these changes:

(1) Allow redirects here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General mini-tab

Uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

(2) Allow all third party cookies here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy

More info: Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them

(3) To rule out extensions as a possible culprit, test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, some advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Note: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox closes, a small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

No, I tried all of that, also, cleared history, cache & cookies & tried the other fixes from the links shown to the best of my understanding.

Are you able to load the Yahoo login page here:

https://login.yahoo.com/

Have you noticed any issues connecting to secure sites? For example, have you seen any sites on which Firefox indicates a problem with the certificate? If so, have you added any exceptions in order to get to the site? That could be a factor because major sites often use components from multiple servers, so allowing an exception for the main address can lead to a very broken layout when scripts from the related servers are blocked from loading.

Yes, I'm able to load the login page; but, when I log in the home page loads (https://www.yahoo.com/) yet the page is blank. When I click on the grey padlock, it shows as being connected to yahoo.com.

If you click the More Information button on that drop-down panel, that should open the Page Info dialog. Then clicking View Certificate should open a certificate viewer. What do you see listed in the Issued by section when you are on that main Yahoo page? I have attached a screen shot for comparison.

I just did the update to Firefox 33.1 & Yahoo is still blank. I happened to check the update history & noticed the update for 33.0.1is missing. Could this be related? The problem started at some point during the 33.0 series.

I'm running out of ideas. It's hard to think of a reason that Yahoo should be special...

Could you check your connection setting here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default setting of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" settings, but you also could try "No proxy" to see whether that helps. In past threads, Auto-detect caused problems for users (Yahoo would not stay logged in).

On the blank page, if you press Ctrl+u to call up a window displaying the HTML source, is that also blank? Normally there would be 1000+ lines of source.

On the blank page, if you open Firefox's web console (Ctrl+Shift+k) and reload the page, you usually will see numerous GET requests with a 200 or 304 status, indicating either a successful retrieval or that the cached version of the page can be used. There also will be many style warnings (blue triangle); you can ignore those. Do there seem to be a lot of other errors or warnings?

The proxies didn't help. On the HTML, there are only 17 lines. The web console is also blank. I reloaded the page several times & nothing shows up.
