Trying to use Thunderbird as IMAP client for Office 365. I keep getting the error that "user is authenticated but not connected".
When using Thunderbird V38.4 to connect to Office 365 (IMAP), I keep seeing the error "user is authenticated but not connected". I have contacted tech at office-365 vendor and of course they just say "move to outlook". My k9mail client on my android devices do not have any issues.
Searching the web, I see this issue coming up over and over with no other answer than "chagne your password", or "remove your password on you pc and reenter it". These, if they do work, are temporary workarounds, usually in a few minutes the error returns. (and yes I have rebooted :) ).
One thing that I found out this morning, that proves it is a microsoft issue. If I log on their web-interface and stay logged on, it doesn't happen, but shortly after logging off, they errors start up again.
Any help will be appreciated, as Micro$oft is of no help at all.
Chosen solution
Matt,
I believe I found the culprit. I am using K9mail on my android devices with PUSH service enabled for the Imap connections. Disabling PUSH service for the account seems to fix the issue.
Please add this to your support database, as this seems to be a big issue for some people.

disable push where exactly?
I have marked your last post as the solution so the thread and that answer will appear in Google searches.
Disabling push in the Android client (k9 mail I my case)solves the issue. Apparently the Android client is authenticated and causing thunderbird to be rejected by exchange. I honestly don't understand it, but know it fixed it.
