Firefox 43.0.3 doesn't open a new tab when I click '+' or do Ctrl+T. I've tried restarting computer, Safe Mode, refresh, reinstall, malware checks, plugin disabling, extensions disabling, theme disabling, deleting prefs file - nothing works. Please help!

Chosen solution

Did you try to open a new window to see if it works in that window?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Thank you very much for your help! I found the problem - Trovi. At the beginning Trovi suddenly became my homepage and couldn't get rid of it. I refreshed Firefox and after that I couldn't open new tabs anymore. I removed the program under the name SearchProtect from my computer and now I can open the tabs!
