I have used thunderbird for newsgroups for years and it seems that like 10 or so versions ago, the threading does not work right anymore.. well it only works one level deep. so for instance. If I respond to a posting that is at the top level, it works fine, but if I respond to a posting on say the 3rd level, then it goes and posts it at the 2nd level.

Like I said this used to work some time ago and it's been several versions of thunderbird now that it has done this. Any help to fix this would be appreciated..

I’m afraid a few bugs for threading issues have been reported in Bugzilla, but that’s about all I can say. Could you have a look at this query for threaded newsgroup, see if one or more match and follow up there or here?

so is bugzilla a better place to post about bugs than here? I did look at the query, and some are of a similar issue, but like I said this worked really well about a year and a half or two years ago, but since been broken.

Absolutely, Bugzilla is intended for filing bugs, and to discuss them to some extent (technically). This forum is intended to help out on troubleshooting steps and offering solutions to users. Neither places are really intended for dicussing policies.

If you want to help out by providing technical feedback or test cases in Bugzilla, please do, as you will help out many others by doing so (note the votes above this thread). In general, "regression ranges" (i.e. when did this started happening?) are valuable info.
