Why is my Firefox being blocked for "Adult" content?

Many websites that I regularly visited (some adult sites, some anime, some Hentai) are now content blocked and Firefox says it can't find them. How can I unblock, or change the content of Firefox? The regular stuff doesn't do it.

When performing the search, the adult content may be filtered.

You need to turn the filter off, as shown in the attached screenshot (referred to DuckDuckGo).

Can other browsers on the same computer and network find those same sites? Usually Firefox connects through the same settings as your other browsers, but there can be differences based on filtering software on your computer, your DNS service provider, proxy servers, VPNs, etc.

As a starting point:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Advanced. Then on the right side, with the "Network" mini-tab active, click the "Settings" button. The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to unpredictable results. You may want to try "No proxy".
