My search bar has disappeared. Customize shows two bars (address and search) but the regular window only has address. How do I restore my search bar?

Yesterday I had two different bars, one for address and one for search, which I like since it means I can leave my most recent search up for modification or copying. However today there's just one long address bar and no search bar. I have seen this problem all over this forum and followed two methods of restoring my search bar: open customize menu, drag and drop the search bar onto the window, and close customize; and restore defaults. Both have result in a long address bar and no search. The separate search bar is one of my favorite things that Firefox has over Chrome, so I'd very much like it back.

If Firefox is just going to change into Chrome, why use Firefox at all? Give me back my bars!

Hi  !

This is probably caused by the TAARExperiment extension, as part of a Mozilla Shield Study, or by the Search Shield Study extension, which is also part of the same project.

See : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/shield

If you find such extension : please disable it (or remove it) and things should be back to normal again.
