You should never downgrade browsers. New versions contain important security fixes, as well as modern web technologies and performance improvements.

What ads are you seeing in Firefox? You can install an adblocker like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin to block ads on websites.

If you don't like the new tab experience, you can easily customize that. Customize your Firefox New Tab page
