i have created both account for comcast and gmail how to I transfer the folders and their contents from comcast to gmail

I am moving from comcast to Verizon. I have created the accounts on Thunderbird. the comcast accounts has all of my folders. Do do I get my folders over to gmail? I am not wedded to gmail is there another email I should use to make this easier?
