When I open inbox\messages I see me emails. Some of these emails were placed in existing folders. When I view the message pane there is a column which is empty, but I do not see a way to see which folder the message is in. How do I do that?

If you have selected 'Inbox', then the Message List will list only those messages in the 'Inbox' folder, so the 'Location' column header will not have anything in it because you are already in that folder.

So if you have selected 'Inbox' and can see the Message in the List and select it so it views in the Message Pane, then it is in the 'Inbox'.

But somehow I do not think this is what you mean.

Perhaps you mean, emails got downloaded and auto moved to a different folder - not Inbox, so you cannot locate them.

A folder in the Folder Pane with new unread mail will be in bold. Menu icon > Folders > Unread This will filter the Folder Pane showing only folders that have unread new mail. It is a useful way of decluttering the Folder Pane and helping to locate unread mail. Menu icon > Folders > All will return you back to normal view.

Menu icon > Find > Search Messages This is a useful way of searching for emails. Select the name of the mail account select 'Match all of the following' 'Status' and 'is' and 'New' - will locate new mail OR try 'Status' and 'isn't' and 'read' - will located any unread mail click on 'search'

This will list all new mail in that account.
