Chosen solution

So, you see default and default-release in the Profile Manager? The first one is the W7 profile and the second is the empty one with no accounts. Select default and see if it opens without error. See picture.

I have tried multiple times and have always followed the video instructions exactly including closing thunderbird and only having the roaming folder open. Both versions of Thunderbird are the same. I have 3 email accounts which I believe should not be a problem to do all at once. When I click on the thunderbird folder within the roaming folder there is another folder named thunderbird within. Should there be? This is driving me potty please help Thank you in advance Paul

Copy the Thunderbird folder on the W7 computer:

C:\Users\w7user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

Delete the existing Thunderbird folder on the W10 computer:

C:\Users\w10user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

Copy the W7 Thunderbird folder into Roaming on W10. Do all of this while TB is closed. The TB version on the W10 computer should not be older than the version on W7, if both are 68.*.

Thanks for that but I have tried that several times and to be sure have done so again after reading your post (Thunderbird was closed) Same result as in when i open thunderbird a 2nd window opens asking me to set up an account and there are no accounts visible. It just looks like a fresh install as i said above. Both versions are 68. Do you have any suggestions?

Start Profile Manager: close TB, Windowskey+R, type thunderbird.exe -p

Do you see the profile that was copied from W7 in the list, and if you do, can you select that profile and open TB with all your data?

Was the TB 68 version exactly the same on both computers? If the W7 version was even one subversion lower than on W10, you would see an error message, as in the attached picture.

No I can't see the profiles only default and default release. I have double checked the versions and they are both 68.5.0 (32-bit) There is no error message. Thank you for your help What next?

Brilliant! Thanks very much! How come I needed to to do that? It looks like I am good to go now. If I could give you a medal I would. Cheers, Paul

Copying profiles between computers is more complicated in 68 due to the 'profile per install' feature, which causes more pain than the supposed benefits provide. It doesn't even work seamlessly if both computers have the exact same TB 68 version.

I have same problem and the solution didn't work for me, and I cannot migrate profile from old computer to new one, even I have used and followed all instructions posted here. Is any one can help me in this process, I am in desperate mood so far, 23GB of data is lost. I am migrating form TB67 to TB78/64
