An error occured with the POP3 mail server
I have a Comcast email address. I am able to receive emails through Comcast website and through Apple Mail, but not through Thunderbird. This started 5 days ago but it was working before. (6-7 days ago I installed Norton/ Life Lock protection to this MacBook Pro.
Whenever I open Thunderbird or try to get/check new messages I get an error message saying "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server" - how can I fix this?

I also use Norton and had to switch of VPN, but not because of Thunderbird. A load of links either in emails or in websites were being directed to unknown webpages that were irrelevant. Those links were known good solid links eg: to this forum, nothing dodgy. Norton VPN caused too many issues. Thanks for your feedback.

As you installed 'Norton' , is Norton now also controlling the Firewall ?
Exit Thunderbird Access Firewall Make sure Thunderbird is set up as an allowed program, otherwise Norton may be blocking it's access to the internet.
I took my MacBook to my local repair shop. When using Thunderbird email they suggested that I turn off the VPN of Norton. Email is now working. One message I was getting was something like "error because of a 'blacklisted ip address' " My understanding of the VPN process is that it creates a "fictitious" ip address to disguise location and presented a conflict CNC
