How to continue browsing with download prompt open

After clicking on a download link but before selecting save location and actually starting the download, I want to be able to continue browsing in another windows. Right now the prompt enter the file name blocks firefox application entirely on Mac. Is this possible?

Hmm, I was able to switch to a different Firefox window and interact with a page (submit a search). But that is on Windows, and I switched using either the Taskbar button list or Alt+Tab, which presumably work a bit differently on Mac OS.
