Will Thunderbird 102 support TLS 1.2 or higher when used with Ionos
In last 24 hours or less I upgraded to 91.11.0 and now I have 102! Question is will Thunderbird 102 support TLS 1.2 or higher when used with Ionos. And why am not able to sync all emails in sub folders in my account with Ionos. I know it is a Ionos question but they have not yet answered my question.
I have been using Thunderbird for 25 years now. I downloaded latest version this afternoon but have no clue how long it has been available or what version I had prior to downloading 91.11.0 I use imap.ionos.com and smtp.ionos.com for a really long time. Problem is I had a lot of subfolders with many emails in each one I can see on my ionos.com log into site using Firefox but not anymore with Thunderbird 91.11.0 and current version of Firefox. There are only like 5 usual folders of I received an email from ionos yesterday saying.
Below is from Ionos to me and my email account.
"One or more of your devices or email programs are currently accessing our email servers unencrypted or using the TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols. This includes connections using SMTP (for sending emails) and/or POP3/IMAP (for receiving emails). Both unencrypted access and connections using the outdated TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols no longer meet current security standards. To protect your email communications, these connections to our email servers will no longer be possible as of 08/09/2022. What does this mean for you? The following email accounts were accessed without encryption: my email address is here *****@*******.com I block letters and numbers. Please make sure that encryption (SSL/TLS) is enabled in your devices or programs. We have summarized how to adjust the settings for some popular email programs in the IONOS Help Center. The following email accounts were accessed with TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1:
- @********.com
For email connections between your devices or programs and our email servers to continue working after deactivation, they must support TLS 1.2 or higher."
I really like Thunderbird. Please tell me what is wrong and how to fix. And I called Ionos.com and they could not help with Thunderbird or with TLS 1.2 or higher. Please

TLS 1.2 is the default, so my guess is you may have other settings to investigate, such as SSL/TLS. Their statement was that you were connected either unencrypted OR using an older TLS. I just noticed 102 is out there. But TLS 1.2 was already the default.

Thanks for reply David. Going to sent it to Ionos after I white out your name. For whatever reason using TB102 and Ionos I am not seeing all those sub-folders in my account containing lots of emails. Only see those emails when I log into my Ionos account not using TB102.
It has been 2 days now since I have installed TB102 and I have same problem I did not have prior to installing and using Thunderbird going back to last century. I do not see all my many email sub folders in my 3 email accounts with Ionos when using my Windows 10 laptop. I am using 465 and SSL/TLS. Ionos wants to set up an Exchange account cost of $8.00 a month per email account to see those 3 folders on my laptop using Thunderbird. For whatever reason I see sub folders in one email account I have linked to my Android moto e5 Play cell phone. When I use my Windows laptop to see my email account logging into my Ionos account I see those 3 email accounts and sub folders. Any suggestions other than closing my Thunderbird account and using Ionos?
I have no knowledge of Ionos, so cannot give any useful response. Sorry.
From what I read Thunderbird 102 has TLS 1.2 though I have no clue whether or not I am now. Part of this problem is me not seeing files from previous emails in my folder after downloading TB 102. It is a long story. had to delete my email account and then reinstalled it after I had saved to my Ionos account with new names I added 2022 so I would know those were files I added today that were in account before I deleted my email files in account and open it again with new folders and files I had copy to 2022 accounts I created. I real pain. There should be a more easy way when Thunderbird 103 comes out. Thanks
Another day. I deleted all my 3 email accounts on Ionos and then shut Windows 10 computer off and restarted. Went to Thunderbird 102 and added those same 3 email addressed and was able to reload files and sub folders. Then got to thinking why do I need all those old saved emails in lots of different folders. I only use one email account and those other two forward to new emails to them to that one account. If I think I should reply using one of those other two email address I pick it as a return address and if there is a reply it goes to my main email account. What I got thinking why do I need all those old old emails in each of those 3 email accounts and why not back them up to my Windows 10 local folder or some other folder. This way I will have less files on my site having to be loaded or possibly looked at by others. HOW to do it. Apparently TLS 1.2 has been around since TB 78 how do I show Ionos I have it. And How do I find it since Ionos is restricting emails to TLS 1.2 in August. And that was what got me started in all this. How to do it. Thanks
Your issue may not be TLS. Remember, the initial message said that was one of the options. Are you using 587 and STARTTLS in smtp server? Try that, as that is the IONOS recommendation.
Thanks David for above reply. Ionos says SLS/TLS I will ask them this morning if they can look again to see if my any of my 3 email address are TLS 1.2 after all this. Another Question. Image below shows 2 of address's in my Thunderbird 102 account. Prior to upgrade there were 6 or 7 folders with lots of saved emails some new some very old. Now I just see them on my ionos account when I log into either which is random. Now there is not much storage or anything in those files, emails send to either are forwarded to my main account and I can use either of their email addresses to reply from my main email account. This all happened when I installed Thunderbird 102. I would like to do same with email account I use more often. An inbox and junk box and maybe add a few others and when those others get more than I think they should have I transfer those I want to save to my Ionos boxes. Or can I hide those boxes preventing anyone who might somehow get into my email account? Thanks
Okay, all I know of ionos is their website says 587 and STARTTLS for smtp server and SSL/TLS for incoming server. But I defer to whatever they tell you. On those missing folders, it may be that you need to right-click on account and subscribe. Beyond that, I am not sure of what is happening for you.
It has been about 3 hours and now I am set up with Thunderbird 102 and Ionos making me very Happy. Is there some way to hide folders having old emails I saved after reading then when I get some new emails, I'll read them and when I get 4 or 5 or 10 I cut and copy to wherever folder I don't want to show? Is that possible. I backed up my email account I use most a couple days resulting in a thunderbird.zip file however when trying to open it screen froze. Thanks.
1 - I moved all emails in specific folders, leaving them empty to new sub folders in Local Folders. Done.
2 - Is there some way to move Thunderbird 102 Local Folders file down below last sub folder shown in my email account address? I am a Thunderbird user for 30 years now and there is so much in 102 it is amazing but a simple thing like moving Local Folders below my email folder should be very easy.
3 - Is there some way to backup Lock Folders files to a USB drive?
Thanks
Maybe if you post a screenshot of your list of folders, it may be more apparent of what you want. For me, the local folders have always been below my email accounts. Is that what you're asking?
You can back up local folders from File Explorer (when TB is not running), by copying from what is probably this location: c:\users\yourID\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles\yourprofilename\Mail\Local Folders
Hi David, I logged in this morning to see your email and others. Those others usually have colors in background or images nothing. Just print on white background and black text. Very strange. Everything else is good. I like that all my saved messages do not show in all but one small folder. See image below of my folders and where Local Folders is. I know I know what difference can it make Local Folders is above and not below my email address. It is just that I got use to it below for all these years. And for all those years there were ways to arrange folders. Thunderbird 102 seems to be faster though microseconds are very hard to tell but it seems faster. I like upgrade and will do try and do a backup of Local Folders today. Thanks
Okay, Go to Accountsettings. Local Folders and accounts are listed in left side. Highlight Local Folders and drag to below accounts. It might take a few tries, but that does it.
David, you and Thunderbird 102 have made what i just did very easy. More than very easy. I like it. You made my day. Thanks
Kewl! Thanks for the smile. Please mark this topic closed so it can be removed from active problem list. It was a pleasure to work with you.
What about received emails having no backgrounds for those that usually did have images?
I fixed it. Change to Original HTML. This is all closed Very happy. David, Thanks and to Thunderbird 102
Above fix lasted a few hours until Ionos.com found Thunderbird coding and then back to where it was not being allowed to see all my Ionos.com on Thunderbird using Windows. There is reason why I am having problems with Ionos.com and Thunderbird 102.1 As of 9th of August 2022 no more Thunderbird with Ionos. If I want an email provider it has to be Outlook.com or perhaps some other provider but definitely not Thunderbird. Add to above an Ionos.com exchange fee per month or year to use Outlook.com in an upgraded basic to business account with Ionos.com. And something else, there is a yearly or monthly fee to use Outlook.com Total could be $150.00 a year. I have my domains with Ionos.com have you a suggestion who might transfer them and use Thunderbird 102. If I am saying something wrong here let me know. What I do know is I like Thunderbird a lot more than I do using more than I need in Outlook. Thanks.
