Hi There! Can anyone please help? Been using Thunderbird for years and I've suddenly got a problem with how some Message are displayed. I have made sure "Threading" is not selected as I thought that may be the cause. But it seems to be different. I'm using T/B Ver 102.2.2 (64-bit) if that helps.

From the attached, all e-mails are displaying correct date/time order. Except one or 2 aren't!!! So, the one shown was replied to by them today and yet it shows up in the correct location but with the date/time of the original message (18/11/2022) and not today 21/11/2022 when it arrived. You can also see how they appear on the "read" window rather than the usual "earliest at the bottom" flowing style it's "sectioned". You can also see an e-mail which arrived today but it displays the date/time of the original message (15/09/2022) but is positioned correctly for when it arrived today (21/11/2022). Also, not all e-mails are doing this and it has just started.

Any clues as I've spent a while Googling and searching the T/B "Help" pages but can't see the problem reported anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help! Cheers, Chris

Hi gp, cheers for this. I think we are on to something. The thread thing I found was in a small square dropdown to the right of Date in the header bar (can be seen in my screenshot) so I assumed that was it and, if I made sure it was de-selected, it would work. I didn't see the one you have pointed out as I assumed the one I had found on the right was the only "thread" place!!!! I did wonder as it didn't make to much sense.

Having looked at the area you suggested, the on-line Help has now made complete sense and I have just changed the "View" "Sort by" to "Unthreaded"! Bingo!!!!!!!! All sorted. Thanks to you and Dave and sorry for being such a Muppet! I'm still mystified why it changed. I did read Ver 102 made threading standard so maybe that was it. Anyway, all good to go. As I say, I've used T/B for several years now so I was puzzled. But all good now! Thanks again to you both!

Cheers, Chris

OK, this is just a shot in the dark. It may accomplish nothing. Try setting the default for future folders to be unthreaded by going to config editor and

change default that applies to NEW folders you set up:
       mailnews.default_view_flags 0=unthreaded

The config editor is at settings>general and at lower right. The default setting is 1, and I'm suggesting to change it to 2.

Hi David, thanks for getting back to me so soon. I changed the setting from "1" to "2" as you suggested, then just to make sure, logged all the way out then back in. Sadly, I still have the 18/11/22 in with what are now yesterdays e-mails (21/11/22) + the "boxed responses". It's really odd as, as far as I can make out, it just started happening.... Or, maybe, I've just noticed it..... LOL!

Nothings changed - I've not been asked to approve config changes (I run Linux Mint) so it's a real mystery. I did note that, if you look bottom right on the screenshot, it says "2 selected"; the number varies in those e-mails affected depending on how many "boxed responses" there are. It just makes it hard to locate specific, older, e-mails as they seem swept up into "selected threads"! But "threads" is not selected on that drop-down!

Cheers, Chris

Hello @chris_morshead

the '>' symbol before the title means indeed that what you are seeing here is the 'head' of a thread. What do you mean by 'drop-down' with this threads selection ? what do you see in the view menu (see screenshot)

I'm glad all worked okay. In my suggestion, I meant to say change to zero, not 2. 0 is the setting for unthreaded. My typing error, as I had it correct on prior line.
