I've tried other browsers (e.g. brave) and it works fine there. I can close the tab, close the browser, reopen it and I'll still be logged into chatgpt but not with firefox

I've tried clearing cookies, settings them to always be allowed, re-enabling web-rtc, disabling enchanced protection, nothing works. IF i close the active tab with chatgpt even momentarily i will always have to re-log in again when i reopen it

This is how Browser that have security works close any tabs or Browser window and you log out. This is security implemented in Browser to prevent attacks and keyloggers. And how other Browser like Brave works that is up to them how they want it to work but Firefox will log any users of sites if they close that tab to the site or completely the Browser. What one does it enable AutoFill/AutoSave so they can store their log to sites and log back to saved sites without having to remember what their logins are.

yea but if that is so why does this only happen with chatgpt. firefox keeps me logged in fine in every other website from reddit to google, including those that should arguably be kept more secure (like google with it's gmail) than meager openai's chatgpt. Why do this for chatgpt alone?

and yea i have the autofill/save on, so it saves me some time, but i still have to spend like 10 seconds logging in every time i reopen chatgpt even with these enabled

Try right-clicking the site in History then Forget about this site. Make sure you have a backup record of your user name and password before doing that because they will be forgotten also.

If that doesn't fix the issue, try restarting in troubleshoot mode.

thanks for the info, strangely enough the first part didn't actually make the browser forget the passwords/logins, though it did clear the website from the history. It didn't resolve the problem either, then again, i'd already tried clearing the cookies before

I'm yet to try the second tip since it seems fairly complex, maybe i'll try it this weekend. thanks for trying to help anyway!

Maybe this is a chatgpt doing that the logins are treated differently then those other sites. Did you contact chatgpt and ask them about the login issue yet?

I haven't. The problem is, this only happens in Firefox. I also use the brave browser (which is chromium based) as my other daily driver and i dont have that problem in that browser. Chatgpt stays logged in for literal days

That's interesting, I thought it was a ChatGPT specific issue, because that happens for me as well.

Frankly, it's possible (but not confirmed) that it's actually a chatGPT problem. hard to know.

Yea this might be it, it's just not clear to me who's "to blame" here so to speak since this behaviour of the website seemingly appears in Firefox. Chatgpt remembers me fine when I'm using Brave (havent tested other browsers but i suspect chrome-based ones would all behave the same at least)

If you're interested you could always try testing on a mobile device with different browsers.

Still keeps logging me out btw whenever I close the tab. Still only happening with firefox with or without extensions

Does it still happen in a new profile without signing into sync? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.
