firefox already running message is not true after new install

Upgrading Firefox, i mistakenly moved my old profile to my desktop to save it in case something went wrong. When trying to put it back where i stole it from, i forgot which file it came from and went to where i thought it came from and found a new profile existed there. Error message says two browsers can not be open at the same time. Can't turn off the FFX browser because it won't display as open. i have trashed everything labled Firefox using apple command find and then attempted to install a new downloaded copy. Still gets same message as if the newly downloaded copy is already running.

Similar problem but browser would run for 5 minutes and then freeze. only done this since 3.6.6 update. Then i checked everything could think off and found 2 firefoxs running task manager so i ended the one that was frozen, works perfect. Maybe when firefox updated it did not remove the older version.
