How to delete list of websites accessed

more options

HTC Desire HD with Firefox 4 beta. I have syncronised with my desktop pc running Firefox 4 beta and xmarks. When I open Firefox on the mobile and find the tabs link down the left (hidden) side panel to allow me a web navigation option, the page defaults to the "All Pages" option from the grey bar beneath the address bar. I want to clear the list of websites in "All Pages" and or default to the "Bookmarks" option at this point. I cannot see how to remove websites from any of the lists (inlcuding the "History" tab) on my mobile. The 'Menu' button at the bottom of the handset screen does not function here). How can I manage these lists please?

You can open the Firefox preferences on your phone and press the "Clear Private Data" button. This will clear your history (as well as your cookies and logins) without deleting your bookmarks.

However, Firefox will continue to add new pages to your history, and sync your history from your PC (if you have history sync enabled in Firefox on your PC). There's currently no way to completely disable history in Firefox for Android, or to change the default tab in the search screen.

As you use Firefox, it will learn which pages you visit most often, and show those at the top of the "All Pages" list. And as you type into the address bar, Firefox will search both your bookmarks and history, and show you the best matches.

Didn't work I am afraid. I opened Firefox on the HTC, went to Settings, and the Preferences page showed. I pressed the 'Clear Private Data' button, it greyed out then returned with 'Clear' displayed in black again.. I closed back to the Home page and re-opened Firefox. Pressed the Tabs button and once again the page displayed was the 'All Pages' tab and there was a long list of sites visited. What may be the cause of this please? I have history sync disabled in Firefox on my PC. There is nothing showing in the page for the 'History' tab. It is the All Pages tab that is showing all the websites.

Because of a bug in Firefox, the "All Pages" list might not be cleared right away, but it should be cleared the next time you start typing into the address bar. For details, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567121

By the way, we've started work on adding a built-in way to clear just the history: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589729

If that change isn't finished in time for the next release of Firefox, we can release it as an add-on instead.

By the way, I wrote a simple add-on that puts a "Clear history" button in the mobile Firefox preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/mobile/addon/clear-mobile-history/

Update: Because of a bug in addons.mozilla.org, installing the addon from the above page might not work. Until that's fixed, you can install it from limpet.net/clear instead.

If you have multiple devices that are synced u have to delete on each device starting from the hosts'. Other wise you will be chasing your tail.
