Firefox doesn't open a new tab unless I access a random link. How do I fix this?

The problem that I have with my Firefox browser is that when I click the '+' button to open a new tab, it doesn't open. But if I click on some random link, it opens in a new tab. This has been going on for almost 2 weeks and I don't know what could have caused this problem. I hope that you can help me. I tried reinstalling Firefox, but the problem persists. Thank you.

Thank you, it works now. I honestly don't enjoy this version of Firefox as much as I enjoyed the old one, but I will get used to it. Thanks again for answering so fast.
