How can I prevent Facebook from loading on web pages?

When I load webpages, they are slow and always waiting for Facebook to load. I don't want Facebook nor any other social media loading unless I go on their site. Can this be blocked?

You can install an addon called Ghostery that disables Facebook Connect and other scripts from running.

You'll be able to find it at http://addons.mozilla.org
