How do I make the character encoding work? I assume I need to download some font files but I don't know which or how to get FF to recognize them. Or is this an OS feature, do I need to change something in Linux that FF uses? Oddly it seemed to work with the Konquerer browser under Ubuntu but when I switched to Kubuntu something seems to have been left out.

FF2 is outaded and not supported anymore. Update to FF10.

If you have such an old Firefox 2 version installed then your Linux distribution probably misses required libraries.
