I have for a long time had my browser set to automatically clear all browsing history. I work with very sensitive information so Private Browsing is absolutely essential. For months it's worked exactly as it ought to, and starting this morning I found that firefox not only remembered the windows I'd had open during my last session, but had also kept me logged into several secure sites. I've combed through your FAQs and help pages but haven't been able to solve the problem

Hi Lolsen!

I understand that you want to make sure that your data is cleared when you close the browser.

In order to do so you should go to Options -> Privacy and select "Never Remember History" in the first drop down.

That should do the trick. If your history is maintained even with that setting, it could be due to a bug, so please, let us know.

"Never Remember History" has been selected this whole time. I tried changing this and resetting it, which didn't help.

Firefox may not be closing properly or crashes and session restore may be kicking in.

See:

Try to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.
