On firefox 16.0.2 on a macbook pro OS X 10.8.2. Smart Suggestor Ads appear on top of my google search results. I did not install the Smart Suggestor add-on & I can't find it anywhere on my computer. I suspect this is something else. How do I get rid of it? Thanks for any help.

Chosen solution

"Save now" is the name of the extension.

I really don't know how I had it installed (I never did by myself, I'm sure of it), but indeed, by removing it, those @@ł€@# smart suggestor ads disappeared.

Thanks for the tips.

Edit: What I find strange is that this extension is not available on mozilla addons website. Plus, I had a hardrive crash 10 days ago and I decided to create a fresh new profile for my FF on my new install (I had crashes on my old profile) , installed the few extensions I like.. and nothing more..

Sooo.. how the hell did this extension succeed to install itself?!

After a few searches on the net, we can see that the same thing happened to others, all wondering how to remove these new ads.. tss.. pfff..grrrr

this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your system. please go to tools > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally or don't know what purpose they serve, etc).

I followed your advice & found an extension, divX plus web player HTML5 < video > 2.1.2.144, that I can disable but cannot remove (there's no remove button). That could be a culprit. Do you have any suggestions? Thx for your help!

I found another mysterious extension & deleted it--and the problem vanished. So, I don't know about the DivX player, but problem solved. Thank you!

Can you tell us the name of that extension if you still remember it?

It helps others with a similar problem who read this thread.

I'm so sorry, I deleted it before making note of it. As I recall, it was a very simple name, something like "save it." Basically, I didn't recognize it, it just appeared in my extensions, and I think that was the key to

the solve.

I had this problem and found the answer before reading this ....Its is correct that it is a extension on Firefox ..It seems that the culprit can be called by several names ..i have listed "save as" "save now" or "Save it" The add on I got came from a site www.Isohunt..i was asked continually if i wanted to down load it by Firefox ..when 1 day i accidentally clicked it ...I dont know if any other pages try to install it and i dont know if it does anything else , so just disable it ...hope this helps

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I found the mysterious save it in my extensions too. However I'm almost certain I didn't download it. Plus I only have about ten extensions so I'd have noticed it if it had been there even the week before!

Go to Firefox TOOLS menu>>>OPTIONS>>>>>SECURITY and tick the box "warn me when sites try to install add-ons if it is not ticked ...you will then get the option to install or refuse any add ons ...as a rule i dont install anything unless i know what it is ....hope this helps..

I had unwanted adverts on my blog blog.

How I solved it:

1 Goto Help 2 Select Restart with Add-ons disabled

Restart Firefox browser

No more unwanted adverts so to determine wich add-on was giving the unwanted ads I was enabling every add-on and one by one and restared firefox

The add-on save now 4.0 was the cause of the problem

After removing Save now 4.0 everything was working normal

I don't know how this Save now 4.0 add-on was installed

Hope this was helping you

I've had this problem for about a month; it appeared on a BBC site so I was sure it was a plant. Following suggestions here, I removed all suspicious Firefox extensions e.g. Save Now and similar and Hey Presto! - job done!!! Thanks for all your help.
