When I clicked, ok, got a window saying Outdated browser detected 22.0. Please update the latest version of firefox (recommended).

When I clicked, Accept and Install, it downloaded Firefox_Setup.exe. When I clicked on that, it brought up Optimum Installer and had express or advanced options. The express option said Whitecloud would be installed. The Advanced option took me through various apps to install, Value Apps, etc. I declined all those and then something was installed. Now I'm not sure if this was really from Firefox or third party providers? Should have I accepted and installed this. Is there an updated version of Firefox from 22.0 or should I have not allowed this to install? If not, what should I do now?

You most likely got some malware with installing this program. You should never respond to such "invitations", but always only install software from the official website of software, in case of Firefox these are the Mozilla servers.

You can find the full version of the latest Firefox 22.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

This happened to me too, not on YouTube but elsewhere. I'm enclosing a screen shot.

robinrobin,

Did you read the disclaimer at the bottom of that popup?

It says We are not partnered with Firefox ....

Firefox is a web browser, not a "company" that could be "partnered with". Mozilla owns Firefox and is the "company". That should be a tip-off that the update message isn't a valid message from Mozilla!

The Mozilla legal department has been notified about this issue and is working toward shutting the perpetrator down due to violation of Mozilla's trademarks for Firefox.

the-edmeister,

Good catch. Never saw the light gray font on the white background. Hope they get shut down soon.

These are appearing on Facebook now too.

Found out it was malware that installed itself on Firefox Extensions. Deleting it solved the problem. adwcleaner is a good free program that helps.
