Freezes on flash websites like Youtube. Windows task manager processes shows FlashPlayerPlugin opens and crashes over and over. Up to date - how can I fix it?

Firefox hangs every time I open a flash website like Youtube. If I have the task manager open to processes, then I see that flashplayerplugin will try and start over and over again, and appears to crash over and over again. My Firefox and flash player are up-to-date. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both firefox and flash player. I've tried shutting off all the other add-ons. I've even tried installing older versions of flash player, and nothing has worked. My wife uses Firefox for work, so is there any way to fix it?

Chosen solution

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

You can also try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Thank you so much cor-el. The second one was the solution to my problem.

"disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later) "

Firefox works perfect now.
