WHY OH WHY...does FF29 auto-launch FF Start Page when I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A HOME PAGE!!!

I WANT:

TO "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

BUT YOU:

WON'T LET ME LEAVE THE HOME PAGE LINE BLANK.

WHY???

IS GOOGLE MAKING/PAYING YOU TO DO THIS???

ps. THIS NOW LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE ChromeFOX, I COULD PUKE.

Hello, Thanks for letting us know about your want.

If you would like to do, please go to menu then Options. Then click on General and in the box beside "when Firefox starts:" change it to show "Show a blank page" or "show my windows and tabs from last time". Please see the attached screenshot.

Let us know, if it solves ur wish.

Regards

Did all that - wouldn't have to ask if it worked - the Home Page block has a default greyed Mozilla Firefox Start Page which starts whatever else I do.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Only does it when all my previous tabs are PINNED - if I leave an UNPINNED tab, no Start Page.

When did they start using only Blind people for beta Tests?

It's not MY Preferences - Mozilla have hardcoded THEIR PREFERENCE AND WON'T LET ME SAVE MINE

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Check for the presence of a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to initialize some prefs.

This also involves the presence of a .js (JScript) file, probably in "defaults\pref" folder, that specifies to process this mozilla.cfg file.

If you have .js files apart from the channel-prefs.js file, that sets app.update.channel, in the defaults\pref folder then open this file in an editor like Notepad and please post its content. Also please post the content of the mozilla.cfg file.

There shouldn't be a mozilla.fcg file present unless you've created it yourself to initialize some prefs.

If you have this mozilla.cfg file then best is to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

NO,NO,NO This is since FF29 - It is NOT because of a reset.

If I restart FF now, with this tab PINNED, Start Page in New Tab (1st Screenshot) - .If I restart with this tab UNPINNED, NO PROBLEM (2nd Screenshot)

If you close all normal tabs and only leave pinned tabs open when you close Firefox then Firefox will open a new normal tab with the current home page when you open Firefox and have set "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

To avoid that you can leave one blank (about:blank) tab open or open with a blank tab ("Show a blank page") or possibly use a desktop shortcut with the about:blank url appended to the target field.

  • Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts":
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    "Show my home page"
    "Show a blank page"

29.0.2 - IF I stay with FF that long - MAKE THE OPTION "Show my windows and tabs from last time" MEAN WHAT IT SAYS.

You get all the tabs from the last time, but there needs to be at least one normal tab for Firefox to work properly and it is up to you whether to have a normal tab by your choice or let Firefox open the home page.

You can set another page as the home page to make Firefox start with that page.
