I have this issue on my 2 computers with the last firefox version. The start page is not anymore kept in the settings after restarting Firefox (v33). When I set it to the start page I would like to have, I put the URL in options start page then it works. But if I close Firefox and open it again the start page settings is not kept. There is again in the option the firefox default start page. Can you help to solve that ? any idea?

Many thanks

Ok I ve found the solution. My problem was coming from the Search engine ecosia add on. Once I ve disabled it, the probleme doesn't appear anymore. Strange as my default homepage is the ecosia search engine one, and was replaced by the default mozilla start page... Thanks to all for your help

Hello 2Fre,

any luck if you delete in your profile folder the User.js file you have ?

The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).

thank you

An add-on or a add-ware program could also give you this problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar

Select Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I ve tried dboth but the prob is still there. When I change the home page, the file prefs.js is correctly updated. I close FF and when I restart it, the Home Page field value is back to “Mozzila Firefox Start Page” Like if it is reset at each start of Firefox.

I ve tried also to delete the user.js and prefs.js files but the issue is still there. Each time I restart Firefox the homepage is reverted back to the default mozilla firefox one. :(

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Settings Guard does not change anything. It restores setting that were changed.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
