1st letter I type in does not register when I do a search or entry in address bar
Reloading FF and doing updates does not solve the problem. I also have the Adobe Flash crashing everytime I use it, even after installing the latest version.

Just to verity this by reloading Firefox you do mean refreshing correct? (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings)

No, I actually downloaded the latest version of FireFox and it did not correct the problem.
Separate Issue; Your System Details shows;
Installed Plug-ins
Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900 Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac Then reinstall the latest version.
Flash Player v16.0.0.296

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
I uninstalled Shockwasve Flash and reinstalled. Adobe Flash still crashes and my 1st character doesn't work either.
Thanks for trying to help!
I uninstalled Flash and went to FF and put in "youtube" , I had to put in 2 "Y"s to get it to search for YouTube. However, the Flash part worked!!!!! One problem solved!

Thanks FredMcD! That worked. What is the real problem? I assume I will always have to start FF in safe mode?
Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.
Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.
Thanks FredMcD! I'll work that ASAP. Appreciate the help!
This is really frustrating! I had the HP support tech try to solve it and after 5 hrs it worked until I turned FF off and restarted it. Now, I have followed your process and here's what happens (thanks for the help!). I looked at the extensions and the plug-ins. I turned all of them off (ask to activate mode) and the 1st letter still does not display if I start FF normally. If I enter via the safe mode, the 1st letter displays normally. I also have a problem with the adobe flash player (AFP) for some reason. Is there a version for Google Chrome and a version for FF? I keep getting a banner above the text window telling me I have an outdated version of AFP whenever I do anything requiring the use of that s/w. When I install AFP, starting from the FF window, it comes up and is in Google Chrome window. What's this about?
Thanks, Aaron
Did you do what I told you https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1045926#answer-688806 ?
yes. If I understood. I put all of them into the "ask to activate" option. I assume this turns them off?
Also, all extensions have been disabled
