I use the latest Thunderbird and have Windows 8 and it should be compatible. For some reason, everytime I try and delete a message, the mouse freezes and I have to wait up to a minute for the message to disappear. I have tried lots of solutions including running as an administrator and running in safe mode but no luck? Thanks

Hi. We noticed that the troubleshooting information was missing from these questions. In order to better investigate this issue, we may need to request a little more non-personal information.

Please add the troubleshooting information to your post as well as the results of the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Finding the Troubleshooting information
  • Does Thunderbird work in TB Safe mode (see Thunderbird Safe Mode)?
  • What is the Thunderbird version?
  • What operating system do you use (e.g. Windows 7)?
  • Do you use anti-virus and firewall software? What is the version?
  • Do you use Thunderbird add-ons?
  • Who is the email provider?
  • Who is the internet provider?
  • What is the exact error message?
  • What steps did you take right before this happened?

With this information we can better investigate and get a better idea of what may be causing the issue.

Please post back with this information and any other questions you might have.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I have used the troubleshooting option on Thunderbird and also through Windows. I have a new ASUS laptop and it has Windows 8. My work uses Thunderbird and it was not working that well on my old computer either but this issue is totally new.

If I open and email, close it and read another then its no problem. The problem is triggered when I press delete.

Thunderbird works in safe mode but the problem is still there. I had one add on which was a picture of birds at the top but I have completely disabled any addons.

I use 31.5.0 Thunderbird. I use the free version of AVG antivirus.

I use Vodafone internet and I work for a sport company.

There isn't an error message. The problem is only when I delete, it completely freezes for up to a minute so if I had 10 emails to delete I would have to do them one by one and it takes ages.

Thunderbird is set to regularly compact but I manually do it as well and it makes no difference.

It started happening once I moved the Thundebird to this computer from my old by using mozbackup.

Thanks!

I noticed that the link Finding the Troubleshooting information is pointing to a Firefox help-page. The same applies to Thunderbird, but you find it under Tbird's help. So please give us Tbirds - info

Sorry about that! Not much of a tech wiz I am afraid! This is from Thunderbird.

I cant see anything unusual so I wonder how your account settings are. Tools / account settings / server settings Tell whats marked

Modified by Gnospen

more options

Until I delete them is NOT marked.

The other thing that it does that is not entrierly related to deleting messages is when its sending a message, I also have to wait at least 30 seconds before I can go back to the inbox. It wont let me click on the page until it has finished sending and then a few more seconds. Its pretty frustrating because everything is really slow.

Do you compact your boxes? Unless you do all deleted mails are still in inbox. They are just marked as deleted, so they don't show If you keep messages on server and don't tell how to delete them, they just stays there and fills up your server-account. The only reason to keep them there is if someone else (or you) should have access to them from a different device. In that case try setting up IMAP instead.
