I experience performance problems: Every time a connection is made to the SMTP server, TBird freezes for couple of seconds. How to debug this?
I did close 25 messages rules. Disabled "Nostalgia" add-on. How can I investigate what is causing this ? I did set in account > Server details to check for new messages every 3 hour. However it seems that every time I send an e-mail again a smtp server roundtrip is made, thunderbird freezes while writing my next message.

What is your anti-virus software?
my anti-virus is Deep Security by Trend Micro.
Try to start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.
- Win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
- Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
- XP http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.

Does the problem go away?
running TB in safe mode now. The experience is slightly better. However every time I move some mails from inbox to an archive folder, there is this "not responding" issue.
You're supposed to start Windows in safe mode as per the instructions.
tankred, do you still see this problem?
Worse, I even started using Outlook. (After 15years, worth a try, but not what i am looking for.)
