What is the status of native CardDAV support in Thunderbird as of September 2015?

Are there any plans to provide native CardDAV support in Thunderbird? I have tried the SOGo plugin in conjunction with Radicale but, at least on 17.05, it creates duplicate contacts and occasional crashes. CalDAV support is fantastic, again in conjunction with Radicale, it simply works.
